There are many great clubs at NPHS and the Providential is excited to bring you the news about all of them!  The first in a series of interviews with members of different clubs is with Will Roper of the newly formed debate club!  Ace reporter Kevin Urness sat down with Will to find out what the debate club is all about.

What do you do in a typical meeting of the debate club?

We come in, sit down, and Laura Nicholson gives us an assignment for the week, like preparing a speech about a certain topic.  Sometimes, we have open-floor debates where we talk about silly topics and debate their importance.

What is your favorite part of the club?

I enjoy practicing speaking and improving my communication skills.  Debating about silly topics is a lot of fun.  Getting out of your comfort zone is a big part of it.

What are you guys doing in the near future?

Laura gave us an assignment to write speeches about any topic we feel strongly about.
