Meeting with Mr. Henry

Meeting with Mr. Henry

Simon Innaccone, staff writer

Assistant principal is an important job.  They’re the face of the administrative staff and as such need to have a good reputation with the students.  They’re often the first to dole out serious punishment to a student. NPHS’s assistant principal, Mr. Henry is one such individual. He is  a teacher who enjoys working and collaborating with students, so the job of assistant principal comes naturally to him.

A graduate of Florida State University who majored in physical education and health teacher, Mr. Henry enjoys working with his students and helping them out.. He previously worked at Bridgewater High School as a Physical Education teacher.  He then became a K-12 supervisor and although he missed the interaction with students, he has been very grateful for and felt fortunate with his new occupation. He enjoys his new position but says: “I’m always open to new opportunities.”

As a former health teacher, and now an assistant principal, student health and safety has always been of keen concern with him. One thing that threatens this health and safety is the vape epidemic.

“We just want to inform them and help them make the right decision,” he says. “Make it more educational, help inform the students of the dangers of it.”

Although Mr. Henry is clearly against vaping, he doesn’t think banning will help it any and believes that vapes and e-cigarettes need to have their information labeled as transparent as that of cigarette companies. He believes it’s an epidemic mainly within high school and middle schools.

“I’ve talked to other administrators and we agree that it is a major problem within our schools. The administration has been combating this epidemic by sending out newsletters, changing the health curriculum, and by having speakers and experts come in and help inform the students.

All in all his goal while at NPHS is to help students achieve their goals and help them reach their full potential.

“I really enjoy the students and the staff. It’s not even really like work,” he says about his job here.

All in all he’s enjoyed his time at NPHS and hopes to continue to work here and help students out in any way he can.
