On May 14 and 15, the second set of semiannual voice recitals were held in the high school cafeteria. This year, the theme was “Hooray for Hollywood”, so all of the songs performed were taken from different movies. May 14 was filled with performances by excellent Freshmen and Sophomores, while May 15 had a group of outstanding Juniors and Seniors. The performances were kicked off with a fun rendition of Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” (from the Tom Cruise film Risky Business) that had the audience clapping along. The first set included a lot of great young talent. Some energetic and enthusiastic performances by Freshmen included “Thank You For The Music” (Mamma Mia) performed by Lauren Lee, “Edelweiss” (The Sound of Music) by Noah Kudman, “One Day I’ll Fly Away” (Moulin Rouge) by Juliana Ruta, “Make You Feel My Love” (When In Rome) by Jamie Riffel, and “Tonight” (West Side Story) by Kevin Dackow and Kara Dobias, a duet that had the audience in tears. “The freshmen did an incredible job and really stepped up to the occasion,” said Ayleen Solis, a Sophomore in Voice Class.

Next came the sophomores, starting with “Get Happy” (Summer Stock) performed by Carmen Machalek. Some of the other highlights included a somber “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (The Wizard of Oz) by Kathryn Vigilante, “Some Enchanted Evening” (South Pacific) by Dylan Thomas, “Safe And Sound” (The Hunger Games) by Ayleen Solis, “The Wind Beneath My Wings” (Beaches) by Faith Monserrate, and “Luck Be A Lady” (Guys and Dolls) by William Roper. The Sophomores clearly showed their experience and prowess in singing and dancing up on the stage.

The next night, the Juniors and Seniors performed and certainly did not disappoint. The Juniors did a fantastic job of singing their hearts out in all of the songs they sang. There were magical moments, and the night was all the more special for Seniors such as Kyle Kroeger, Jamie Currie, Claudia Kosiecki, and Hannah Black because it was their last and final voice recital of their entire career. Some of the highlights included “Come What May” (Moulin Rouge) and an excellent final performance of “Man of Constant Sorrow” from the George Clooney film O Brother, Where Art Thou by the trio of Eric Roper, Will Roper, and Jamie Currie.
