Pioneers Defeat Manville

Saturday’s football game (10/26/13) was quite emotional, but not because of the game itself. It was Senior day, so the stands were packed with crying moms and proud fathers. The Pioneers were playing Manville, a program that is still in the building stages. Manville played a strong and respectful game, but the Pioneers prevailed.

The Pioneers set the tone right out of the gate. Junior quarter back Jack Harvey had an explosive 1st quarter completing big passes to Seniors Bryan Sherman and Jeff Doran. Senior Joe Joe Ciarrocca had the first score of the game. Senior Brain Urness also had an impressive first quarter on both sides of the ball. Urness, a leader in every sense of the word, had two touchdowns, both on huge runs. After the game he said, “This was a picture perfect Senior day. We all had fun today doing what we love. Our team has great chemistry and this day meant so much to all of us.”

In the 2nd quarter, the Pioneers went off. Seniors Kleisch, Ciarrocca, and Urness all scored. Junior Steve Anderson also found the end zone. At the end of the half the game was over, with the Pioneers ahead 41-0.

The Pioneers have a bye next week, and will then take on Roselle Park, a team that has become a bit of a rival in past years. If the Pioneers defeat Roselle Park, they will receive the 2nd seed in the state tournament and have two home playoff games.
