Pioneer Swimmers Make a Big Splash!

David Hua, Staff Writer

The New Providence High School Swim Team is ready to make another big splash this season!  The first few meets of the season showed the early potential of both the boys and girls teams.  The girls team had a slow start to their season with close losses to Governor Livingston, Oak Knoll, Kent Place, and Cranford.  Although the girls team fell short, they were generally pleased with their showing against some really tough teams.  The boys team has enjoyed some success thus far, fighting against GL to the very last event in a close loss.  Following that loss, the boys team rallied for two big wins against Union county conference rivals Oratory and Cranford, where Junior captain David Hua broke the long standing 100 freestyle record held by Steve Duttenhoffer.

Senior captain Mark Hodges is very excited about the boy’s team this season:  “Our team is very small this year and we’ve lost some good seniors, but I know all the guys will step up and come up big.

We have some big talent to break some more records this year

Coaches Kempner and Barletta have made it known that their expectations this season are very high, and the swimmers are trying to fulfill these lofty expectations.
