What goes into NPHS’s drama productions that make them seem so seamless?

There are many people, from students and staff  to parents and volunteers, who are working to make this year’s fall play, You Can’t Take it With You, a success.

Lots of people that make this show possible are hard at work already.

As director of the production, drama teacher Mr. Duke covers some basic tasks, such as figuring out the cast, rehearsing with that chosen cast, and working out how to present the show.

Duke explained that the logistics of preparing for the play affects everything:  “It has a big impact on the day and also the teaching day and, and also just the fact that this space gets used by people other than myself”.

Duke relies on students like lead stage manager Brianna “Bri” Wycko to know what they’re doing. Wycko’s leadership is complicated and affects her entire day.

Wycko said: “Every show has new people. So I always have to adapt to different personalities. I spend more time at the school than I already did. I sit in the cold for longer than I used to”.

The cast obviously plays an important part of making the play the work of art it is. Natalie Bowser, one of the lead actresses in the cast, is in the unusual position of being a new student at NPHS.  As a senior who just moved here from Pennsylvania, she has had to overcome a little more than getting the part, but she is enjoying her participation in all the activities at NPHS

“Everyone’s…really eager to just get me involved in things and you know, it’s been nice to have that kind of welcome. Especially with people having no idea who I was the first couple of weeks of school,” she said.

You can catch You Can’t Take it With You on November 18 & 19th in the auditorium.
