This year, the girls lacrosse team is entering pre-season with a competitive attitude, and the hopes of having a successful season. Last year, they came close to winning the conference, and after speaking with a few people on the team, it is clear that this is a goal they hope to reach this year. The team will be led by seniors Grace Kelly and Reese Marzynski, who have been varsity players since their freshman year.

Co-captain Kelly, a starting midfielder, talked about some of her goals for the season which are: “to win as many games as possible, and to try and come out successful in the harder games we are playing this year. I would also like to finish the season with a winning record.”

When asked what some of the toughest games will be this season, Kelly explained: “Two of the hardest opponents we will be facing are Kent Place, and Westfield, and we are working hard every day in practice to prepare for these big games.

Marzynski, also a starting midfielder, talked about how they plan to adjust after losing some impactful seniors last year, and how she is feeling about the season so far: “It is important that we fill the gaps we lost last year with the seniors that graduated. They had a huge impact on the team so it is important that everyone steps up so we can be just as successful. We have the talent but need to have the confidence and people need to be driven to use it. Practices have been looking good so I do think we will have a very successful season.”

Cara Lawton, a starting attacker who is a crucial player in the offense, said a goal for the team this season is: “winning the conference because we were so close last year.”

Going into the season with 79 career goals, she is determined to enhance her game even more by becoming “a more dynamic player, by getting better at using my left hand, creating more diverse shots, and working on my defense.”

The first game of the season is April 4th against Caldwell, and the first home game is April 8th against Cranford, both of which will be competitive games and a good start to the season.
