Grades at NPHS: Both Stressful and Important

Grades are an important aspect of the education system. They are used by college admissions to determine acceptance, looked at by parents to understand their child performance, and used by students to judge themselves on academic success or failure.  Although grades are extremely important, they can also cause stress, anxiety and competition.

Alicia Shi a senior at NPHS, her biggest concern is staying on top of her grades because of college.

“Some teachers will put in too many grades, which can affect my grade if Imiss a couple assignments. But other teachers only put your test grades in and I’m not a good test taker so I don’t think it’s a demonstration of how good of a student you are versus how well you take tests or how good you are at submitting homework,” she said.

Daniella Castellano, another senior at NPHS said: “ It can be difficult at times to stay on top of grades and I feel like teachers should be more lenient about extending due dates for certain students.  This would put less stress on me”

For the most part a lot of the students say NPHS’s grading system can be a stress and could be improved. But others say that it isn’t all that bad.

Lucio Di Flaco, a sophomore at NPHS, expressed his opinions about the grading system: “For the most part, I’d say [the grading system] is pretty good, but there are some flaws to it, I feel like they should lower the standard a little bit.”

“It’s actually really good compared to other schools. I feel like our system uses a good method and is very understandable of our time and activities we have outside of school,”said by Sarah Cahill, a NPHS senior.
