Most people know Ms. Delia as the new math teacher here at New Providence High School. What they may not know is what her life was like before she began teaching 10th-grade math at New Providence.
Before coming to NPHS, Delia studied mathematics and education at Monmouth University. She taught math as a student teacher at Shore Regional High School in West Long Branch, New Jersey.
She knew she wanted to teach math specifically when “two of [her] middle school teachers really helped me when I’m struggling in math, and so I want to be able to help other kids who are struggling feel confident with their skills and their abilities.”
Her favorite part about teaching in general is “being able to help kids and just getting to interact with people on a day to day basis.”
Helping others comes naturally to her, and teaching allows her to continue doing what she loves most: “I always found that I was helping my peers when I was in school, and I really liked helping people.”
Coming to NPHS was an easy decision for Delia: “My mom went here. She grew up in New Providence. I did not, but she always spoke well about it, and everybody just seemed so welcoming.”
Inspired by her mother’s positive experiences, Delia felt she could make a difference and contribute meaningfully to the community at New Providence.
Of course, Delia has a life outside the math classroom, where she likes to spend time with family and friends.
In addition, she said: “I like to work out; I am very active and just like to explore new places.”
