Puerto Rico, a Caribbean island, was first discovered by outsiders in 1493. Since then, the island has become a common tourist attraction due to its stunning scenery, the lively culture, and the food. The vibrant culture of African, Spanish, and Taino influences reflect on the music, the different dances, and their cuisine. The country’s hospitality and activities help make Puerto Rico an unforgettable experience.

The scenery in Puerto Rico is truly impeccable. The beaches there are extravagant, with bright white sands. The water is very warm, meaning visitors don’t have to ease into it. The waves are a mix of rough and calm, so it’s perfect for all types of people.

The rainforests are amazing too. You can see multiple different species of plants and animals. Seeing everything in its natural habitat is really amazing to see. There are many different waterfalls, and rivers that are truly just beautiful.

One of the places that I toured was Old San Juan. The tour of the San Juan Gate and the Fort San Juan de la Cruz showed how good the architecture really was back then. The details in the wood and brick are outstanding. The actual city of Old San Juan is a blend of Spanish Colonial, Gothic, Neoclassical, and Baroque styles. These styles make the city a very colorful and radiant place.

Another aspect of Old San Juan that was captivating was the culture. Many of the vendors I visited during my time at the fort were selling Taino Sun bracelets and necklaces, which to them represents creation and life. Puerto Rico has a unique culture. It differs from other cultures, since its many different ones combined. The rich heritage is celebrated in different traditions, colorful festivals, and a very strong sense of community. The hospitality of its people,  combined with the historical depth makes Puerto Rico a culturally rich country.

There are also a diverse amount of activities there, that goes from exploring Old San Juan, to enjoying the different beaches and rainforests. Puerto Rico is also known for their nightlife, which has a huge music and dance scene, which is good for any type of traveler.

The country’s climate can present challenges due the high humidity and temperatures. There’s also many hurricanes and tropical storms. The excessive heat can limit outdoor activities, and make people very uncomfortable, so visitors have to go at a certain time of year.
