We all have our favorite subjects. But why do we like those specific subjects? It turns out there are a variety of reasons. A survey of students at NPHS suggests that the most enjoyed subject is Social Studies, but everyone has their own opinion.
Stella Mascarina, a freshman at NPHS notes that she ‘likes learning about the past and the history of our world, and how we can’t repeat our mistakes.’
Mascarina loves taking a glimpse of the world in the past, escaping reality to learn how the people before us shaped our current world. Based on her opinion, and many others, it is obvious that students value and appreciate current events, past events, and even future events. Social Studies is considered an easier topic than others. Instead of solving problems, like in math and science, students get to listen and learn without any stress or confusion.
The skill level that a student has in a subject has a huge effect on the student’s perspective on the subject. Junior Noam Haber’s favorite subject is science, or any subject similar to science because she ‘feels like she’s really good at them.’
Everyone has that one subject that they always do well in, and have a great understanding of the subject. Not only does that positively affect our grades, but it makes learning fun and easy.
Freshman, Ty Ikeda’s favorite subject is world history. Ikeda believes that ‘the class is really fun, I like history in general, and the teacher teaches us really nicely. He’s also really kind in terms of grading as well.’
Positive experience with teachers can improve grades and create a lifelong desire to learn.
Mia Francois is a freshman student who favors science so much that she takes the content of the subject into account for her future occupation. She likes science, anatomy, and physiology ‘because I want to be a doctor, and that’s what interests me most.’
