Marching Band Works Hard For Success
October 18, 2022
Mmarching band members make it look like a breeze: moving in sync, making sure every note is right.
This year the marching band has around 100 students. Every member has been preparing and practicing all their roles to make an amazing performance. They perform at football games during halftime; they also have competitions, which, historically, they have done very well in. They are performing at MetLife Stadium, and they recently had a fall review and about 800 people were there to see their excellent performance.
Band director Mr. Niedziejko said he is very proud and amazed at how students have handled their practice and how committed they are at rehearsal.
“When they’re at rehearsal, they’re at rehearsal, and they’re focused, and they’re working extremely hard. That changes when school starts because there’s homework and there’s sports and there’s chores and everything that goes to that, but they’ve handled it very well,” he said.
Drum major Samvit Singhal, a senior who is very thrilled about this season, he likes helping conduct the band and feels that all members are working beautifully together.
He admitted that practice can be tough: “It’s tiring. It’s super tiring. And we have rehearsals late at night. Everybody gets tired in the middle of rehearsal. But this season especially, what I’ve seen is that we’re able to sort of fight through that tiredness and just like, get it to the finish line, get through the rehearsal and just keep the energy up. That’s been super special.”
For Ronan Flanagan, a junior, getting to be drum major this year is getting to fulfill the dream he has had for about 10 years. Having more time to dedicate to the band and keeping a tight schedule is what keeps him going.
He said that the marching band is more than just a performance: “We put in a lot of work, and I think it’s a really great form of art. And in many ways, it’s its own sport. And I think it should get the recognition it deserves a lot.”
