Whether the Weather be Fine or Not

With inclement weather comes increasingly dangerous driving conditions.  A significant number of the upperclass student body have their license and should take special precaution as the roads become icy and slick.  12th graders have the privilege to park in the ‘senior lot’ but not without certain guidelines to be upheld.  Students have to apply decals to their car to indicate they may park there, they can only park in designated spots, and are not allowed take their cars out during the day.  Juniors must park elsewhere, with ample space on Westview Avenue and High Street.

While it is expected that a lack of experience will make teens less accomplished drivers, there are a few tips to follow to reduce accidents and to improve driving conditions:

  • Drivers should always clear snow and ice from the car before driving.
  • Slow down when the roads are wet from rain and snow or iced over.
  • If you do lose traction, take your foot off of the break and maintain control of the wheel. Do not slam on the brakes as they may get stuck.
  • Be especially aware of your surroundings with the possibility of snow falling from branches or other drivers losing control of their vehicles.

Please take care on the roads in this winter season and always, whether the weather be fine or not.
