For over 16 years, Scottish Physical Education Teacher Craig Barclay has been having the best time of his life playing and now coaching his favorite sport, soccer.

Craig Barclay is a High School physical education teacher and a coach for the New Providence varsity soccer team. His life seems to be changing a lot lately as he is having his first child in what could be days or even hours from now. Although this could become a stressful situation for any other person, Mr. Barclay seems to keep a wide smile on his face at all times. From his love for soccer initiating in Scotland to travelling the world coaching his favorite sport to young aspiring soccer players, Mr. Barclay has definitely had an eventful and enthusiastic life.

Mr. Barclay was born in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. In Scotland he was raised in an environment where soccer was considered to be the main sport while most other sports were considered inferior and usually were neglected in schools and clubs. A young Coach Barclay was obviously attracted to soccer at such a young age as it had been prioritized in his area of Scotland. Although his school did not offer many sports and activities to him, soccer clubs definitely gave him an opportunity to further his love for the sport. Coming out of his teen years, he aspired to play for a professional soccer team but then pushed the dream aside, calling it selfish. From there on he knew that he wanted to coach soccer, so from there he went to a college in Oakland City, Indiana to kickstart his brand new career in coaching soccer.

From the beginning of his career until he arrived in New Providence, the coach says he has coached soccer for teams in states near the East Coast like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana and even some other parts of the country, like Texas. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching around the country but he thought settling down and getting a job as a physical education teacher for a high school would allow him to get a more flexible schedule with his family at home.

He definitely has enjoyed his stay in New Providence as a Physical Education Teacher and it is made very clear that he does when he says, “P.E.  Teacher is definitely a job I love, it’s something I’m really proud to be.”

He has now been married to his wife Lindsey Barclay for about 3 years.  She supported his decision to move to New Providence High School and loves the new schedule this school provides him with. He met her about 7 years ago and is now expecting his first daughter Bonnie on October the 22nd of 2019. Overall, Craig Barclay has had what seems to be an amazing life, and though all the moments that seem to be stressful he continues to keep a smile on his face no matter what happens.
