How Students Feel On Wearing Halloween Costumes to School

Dressing up for Halloween, which started back in 1585, has been a habit that many children look forward to every year. However, by the time people start to get to high school age they start to lose interest in the festivity. Many even stay home to pass out candy to the people who still participate.

It’s not surprising then, that as the years go on and people get older, fewer and fewer people dress up at school on Halloween.  They don’t wear their fun outfits and instead act like it’s a normal day.

“Only the people with extra swag dress up nowadays,” said New Providence High School student, Callie Agresto.

However, some students with extra Halloween spirit still take the opportunity to dress before the head off to their plans for the night.

Another student, Ryan O’Day states that, “There is no certain age in which you are too old dress up. It is whenever you decide you are too old.”

This shows that not all high schoolers find themselves too cool for the activities of Halloween. Freshman Erika Danysh even chimed in claiming that, “I will never stop dressing up because my nana still dresses up and everyone finds it very funny. Halloween is a time made for all that includes no age cap.”

Some schools don’t allow for the celebration of Halloween because it violates the law stating that public schools cannot get into religion. And since Halloween originated as a Christian holiday for remembering the dead and departed, it cannot be celebrated in some places. Danysh voiced her opinion by saying that, “students all over the world should be allowed to dress up for Halloween because although it started as a Christian holiday, over the course of centuries, it has been morphed into something that anyone can take part in.”

While some schools are against the idea of dressing up, many students at New Providence High School find Halloween as a time to wear crazy outfits.  Many NPHS students, like Paige Marusic and Sophie McTigue intend to sport their outfits during the school day.

Danysh planned to dress up as Buford Van Stomm from hit TV show, Phineas and Ferb. Her homemade skull shirt and borrowed khakis are sure to grab the attention from fellow Phineas and Ferb fans as well as glances from those adoring the outfit.

Danysh claimed, “I am going to wear my Buford costume to school because it is funny and entertaining to both me and the other students and faculty around the school.”

O’Day also agreed with Erika’s statement adding that, “dressing up is a part of the fun, so if you don’t wear your costume to school you’ll miss out on part of the holiday.”
