Mixed Opinions on Returning to School Every Day

On April 19th seniors started coming to school everyday at NPHS and soon more grades will start coming to school everyday. Juniors will come back to school everyday starting a week later, followed by sophomores and eighth grades, then freshman and seventh graders until everyone that wants to go to school every day is back at school safely. Even though students are coming back to school every day, rules like wearing masks and physically distancing are still going to be enforced for our safety.

The school put up plexiglass dividers to help keep students safe since there are more students at school. The plexiglass dividers go on desks to help limit the chance of people catching coronavirus.
Many students that were originally in group C (a group of students that didn’t go in to school and just zoomed) are starting to feel more comfortable about going to school because of the COVID-19  vaccine.

“At the beginning of the school year, I chose not to go to school every day because I did not yet feel comfortable with how school and the rules would be structured,” said Nia Nunez, a junior. “Now, more and more people are getting the vaccines and following the guidelines. I am coming back to school full-time in September [for my senior year], and I will be much more comfortable by then because the statistics show a gradual decrease in COVID cases.”

However, some students don’t feel comfortable going back to school every day because there are more students at school so there is a bigger chance of catching COVID-19.
“I really like how it is now with the A and B schedule. Honestly I don’t really want to go back to school with more people because I feel like people will get COVID” said Ella Castellano, a sophomore. “In my opinion we’re not really social distancing.”

Some students have a mix of wanting to go back to school but also they feel a bit concerned at the same time.

“In a way I like the idea of coming back to school full time but at the same time I don’t”, said Alexa DeSeta. “I like it because we are trying to go back to how we used to be but at the same time I feel like we should still consider the virus and that it can harm students and staff’s health. I feel like students have had to change the way they go to school already and have already adjusted to hybrid or all at home. I personally believe that the school should have had us just wait till next year to all come back or give students more options, instead of just staying all at home or all at school.”

Overall there are a lot of mixed opinions about returning to school everyday but we know that the school is trying their best to keep us healthy and safe from coronavirus. For more information, make sure to check your emails for news about going to school everyday or other news.
