Who’s The Future of Neer Action?

With 1,664 followers on Instagram @NeerAction continues to be an influential part of life at New Providence High School. This account posts details about all sport games, meets, and competitions. @NeerAction is a helpful tool because it posts where and when games take place. After the game, an additional post goes up letting students and parents know the final score.

Senior and school photographer Devin Lippman is the current student behind the screen. She goes to almost all of the sport games, meets, and competitions to take pictures of students in action. These pictures are then used to create the next post.

“I’ve been the school photographer since the beginning of my sophomore year and I started running @NeerAction during the winter season of my sophomore year,” Lippman said.

When she graduates in June, she is going to leave NPHS to pursue photography in college, but when she does she will leave an empty space behind.  The question is:  who is going to take over @NeerAction when she graduates? There have been some conversations about the next school photographer and who will step up to fill the spot, but no one has been named yet.

“I have a couple ideas, but nothing has been decided yet,” Lippman said.

It is difficult to find a student that will fit such an important role at NPHS. Time management and availability are critical for the new owner of @NeerAction , but really, according to Lippman, it comes down to motivation.

“I hope someone will step up and continue my action after I’ve left. I think it just depends on a student’s motivation to want to continue it,” Lippman said.

Running @NeerAction brings a number of challenges, but has helped Lippman become more connected to the atmosphere at NPHS. Although Lippman is a member of the girls softball and swim teams, she has managed to continue to photograph every possible event.

“There’s definitely a certain vibe, just seeing the student section at games. There’s so much energy and it’s fun to be there. Being able to take pictures and be on the field with the team, there’s definitely a connection there,” Lippman stated.

The future of @NeerAction is still up in the air, but members of NPHS are hopeful that a dedicated student will step up to continue this important and long standing tradition.
