Meet the JV Cheer Team 2021-2022

As the fall sports season has started, the JV cheer team has been working hard every day to learn cool new stunts and pyramids. Between practicing skills and perfecting their routine the JV coach, Coach Marciano, found time to talk to us about the season.

When asked about the season as a whole she told us, “I think the season is going to be very successful because of the work ethic on our team. Every one of the JV cheerleaders works hard at every practice, wants to learn and grow, and works together as a team.”

This is Coach Marciano’s second year coaching the JV team. She is looking forward to watching the team cheer at games, perform their routine, and build strong bonds with each other. The team has been working together since August and has built a trust within one another.

The JV cheerleaders work extremely hard at practice. They stunt at a varsity level and learn the same things (band dances, cheers, chants, etc.) varsity does. Coach Marciano says that she thinks this season will be successful for the JV team and has a lot of faith in the team and their abilities.

When asked what she thinks would and would not go well this season she said, “I truly believe that this will be a successful season overall because of our skill-level, work ethic, and support of one another. Because of everyone’s willingness to improve and learn, I think everything will go well!”

The JV cheer team had their first game on October 11th at 4pm. It was an away game at Metuchen High School. Instead of away bleachers, there was an obstacle course, but that didn’t stop the team from cheering and doing their absolute best, even if they were cheering to a zig zag wall. The team’s next scheduled home game will be on November 1st at 4pm.

Though there is no band at JV games like there is at varsity games, the team brings a speaker to their games, and plays the music the band plays on it. By doing this, the team is still able to do band dances and do them at the correct times even when the band is not present.

Coach Marciano added a new thing for the team to do at games called “free stunt.” What that means is when they hear Coach say they are going to free stunt, they get into their stunt groups and each stunt group performs any stunt of their choice as long as they feel comfortable and confident with it, making game day more exciting for the team.

The team works to perfect and improve the stunts they know while still learning more fun and exciting stunts.

The team also works hard to improve their halftime routine which was choreographed by Coach Marciano: “My favorite part of the routine is the pyramid and dance. One of the team’s strengths is building a strong pyramid with high-level skills. Watching the team hit the pyramid is very exciting! I also love the dance because it is when each one of the cheerleaders gets to let loose and have fun!”. The JV cheerleading team is a very strong team. They are quick to learn new things and they always do everything to the best of their abilities. They are very adaptable and can take changes and incorporate them into whatever they do.

The team has cheered at one varsity game so far this season, that game being the PAL day game on October 1st. They cheered for both the second and third quarters and performed their routine at the pregame.
