End of the Season Sports Recap

Boys Hockey 

  • 3/7 Win vs. Morris Knolls (State Tournament Finals)
    • A defensive battle was won by New Providence thanks to an excellent performance by goalie Shane Cook. 
    • Cook saved all 29 shot headed his way and notched his 6th shutout of the year.
    • Phillip Koutsafte and Alec Nasreddine had the two goals that put New Providence in the lead.

 

Girls Basketball 

  • 2/22 win vs. Summit (Union County Tournament, Semifinal Round)
    • Final Score 66-28
    • The 38 point victory was powered by a great defensive performance. New Providence had 13 steals, 3 blocks, and outrebounded Summit by 4.
    • Meghan Lamanna had another dominant game with 19 points, 2 rebound, and 1 assist.
    • Grace Kinum followed with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
  • 2/26 win vs Westfield (Union County Tournament, Final Round)
    • 56-46
    • With only a 5 point lead heading into half, New Providence had to work hard to hold the lead. 
    • Brenna Slattery led the game in scoring with 21 points and helped rebound accumulating 7.
    • Meghan Lamanna added on 12 points and 2 assists.
  • 2/28 win vs. Bordentown (State Tournament, First Round)
    • Final Score 68-13
    • A dominant defensive performance by New Providence held Bordentown to 0 in the 3rd quarter and 13 through the entire game. 
    • Meghan Lamanna was the games leading scorer with 21 combined with 3 assists.
    • Grace Henn has 10 points as well along with 6 rebounds .
  • 3/2 win vs. GL (State Tournament, Second Round)
    • Final Score – 57-30
    • After outscoring GL 20-3 in the second quarter, New Providence held onto the lead to win by 27.
    • Grace Kinum had a game-high 18 points as well as 5 rebounds and 6 assistS.
  • 3/4 Win vs Rumson (State Tournament, Sectional Semifinal Round)
    • Final Score 57-51
    • In a back and forth game, Meghan Lamanna hit two free throws with seconds left to put the game in overtime. Once there, New Providence hit some clutch shots and won the game by 6.
    • Grace Kinum had an amazing game with 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
    • Jasmine Miller had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
  • 3/8 loss vs. Manasquan (State Tournament, Sectional Final Round)
    • Final Score 52-35
    • Despite a first quarter lead, New Providence was out scored for the rest of the game. This game marked the end of their state tournament run but showed promise for next year.
    • Brenna Slattery was New Providence’s leading scorer with 13 points.

 

Boy Basketball 

  • 2/23 win vs. Perth Amboy Tech
    • Final Score 59-42
    • New Providence started strong building a 10 point lead and holding it ’til half. The 2nd half was similar to the 1st and New Providence added to the lead.
    • Will Lattman had a game-high 20 points along with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
    • Jackson Zarinko contributed 11 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
  • 2/25 win vs. Mountain Lakes
    • Final Score 78-35
    • New Providence asserted themselves out the gate with a strong first half (32-17). They continued to work hard and won the second half 41-18. 
    • Jackson Zarinko, Matt Smith, and Scott Nook all had 12 points, the team high.
    • Matt Demareski had a great game with 10 rebounds, 4 assist, and 5 points. 
  • 2/28 win vs. GL (State Tournament, First Round)
    • Final Score 52-47
    • After trailing through 3 quarters, New Providence out scored GL 29-14 in the 4th quarter to get the win.
    • Jackson Zarinko was the games leading score with 23 along with 5 rebounds and assists.
    • Scott Nook notched 12 points and 6 rebounds.
  • 3/2 Loss vs. Holmdel (State Tournament, Second Round)
    • Final Score – 72-52
    • New Providence had a difficult loss in a game where Holmdel made 12 threes. New Providence stuck with them for the majority of the game but clutch shots put the game out of reach.
