Coach Kempner’s Thoughts on the Upcoming Swim Season

COVID restrictions have been lifted after several years, meaning that the NPHS swim teams are allowed to practice after school once again.

Mr. Kempner, NPHS teacher and girls swim coach is particularly happy that practices for his team were moved from the mornings to right after the school day.

With a great student leadership team and a handful of new, hard-working freshmen, the coach is very excited about possibly advancing farther than last year’s girls, as they fell short right before semi-finals.

His overall expectations for the season are positive.

“Despite losing one really talented swimmer, they might have better depth this year,” he said.

Another thing that Kempner is excited about is that how parents will be welcomed once more to the meets.

“That’s kind of neat because parents can come by and have a little bit more activity  in the stands supporting our team,” he said.

Being a teacher as well as a coach can be tough.  Kempner made it clear that people coach because they love it, but he admitted it can be tough to handle both commitments.

“But typically, you really have to just make sure that you’re doing what you need to for both sides,” he said.
