Spring sports at New Providence High school are starting to hit the middle of their seasons and getting in their grooves before their sectional, states and bigger games coming quickly.

Girl’s lacrosse has almost hit the middle of their season with a current record of 4-3. Their captain, Grace Kelly, says that they have been having a good season so far and making adjustments throughout the season to keep progressing.

Kelly also said that her top priority for the team this year is to make it further in states then last year.

She said: “I think we have been most successful this season with adjusting to our mistakes. We are more patient on offense and are working together on our defense”.

The other girl’s lacrosse captain, Reese Marzynski,  said: “Our season has been going well, we are just playing some really rough teams.”

Her main goal is also to win states and their conference. They have been creating positive team chemistry and doing well against teams they previously lost to.

Spring track has also been having a successful season so far. They have only had a few varsity meets, but they just came in second for their speed relay.

David Gaeta, a junior on the varsity track team said: “We won states last season so our main goal is to accomplish that again, to win that 4 by 4 again.”

Gaeta also says that they have been the most successful at being consistent as a team. They have all shown up to their practices and have been working hard for their workouts.

Girl’s softball is currently 9-4 with their season. Harper Gold, a sophomore, said that their season has been going well considering their record and working well together as a team.

Captain Abby Miller identified her main goal:  “I would like to make it far in states and the Union County tournament.”

Miller said that their hitting as a team has improved greatly and for most of their games that they have won, the score has not been close.  They have even “mercied” multiple teams.

The boy’s lacrosse team is on a five game winning streak, hoping to continue it further and beat Crawford on Tuesday the 2nd. They’re having a huge comeback and are trying hard to keep it going.

Ryan O’Day, a senior on the lacrosse team, said that their main goal that they hope to achieve this season is to have a home playoff game. He says that they have been doing well so far at becoming more aggressive and having intense practices.

Boy’s baseball has almost hit the middle of their season. They are playing harder teams this year, but are putting up a good fight after the loss of a lot of seniors last year, making the team very young.

Nick Santacross, a senior and captain of the team said: “this season has not gone as planned so far but we have a lot of talented players who step up each day when we need them to. Our schedule has been tough, but we get better everyday and put in the work. That will prepare us better for the playoffs too.”

Santacross also said that a big goal for them is still to win a sectional championship and ultimately getting back into the position to win a state championship too. He says that they have been pitching well so far. Their pitchers have been throwing a lot of strikes and keeping them in games. With each game, he says, their defense and aggressive nature of the team continues to grow.

Matt Smith, another senior on the team said: “We are not doing too well so far but we are playing a tough schedule so it will prepare us for the playoffs”.

He says he wants to win the county tournament then win the section and state championships. Smith also says that their pitching has been very good so far and that players on the team have stepped it up in difficult games when necessary.
