In this day and age it seems everybody has a YouTube channel. What many, especially HS students, can’t say is that their channel has over 1,000 subscribers.
There is an NPHS student, however, that can say that, and his name is Jay Jindal. His YouTube channel is called JVGames, and has around 1,010 subscribers. He primarily posts Roblox content, particularly Jailbreak. He livestreams regularly and several of his shorts have topped several thousand views. However, with this level of popularity on a social media platform comes with notable effects on other areas of his life.
Jindal created his channel so long ago he can not remember an exact year, although he the primary reason for creating his channel was his love for video games.
“I used to play a lot of video games during downtime, and I decided to start a YouTube channel that would incorporate my love for them,” he said.
Jindal believes the channel has affected and influenced him in a variety of ways, including his behavior on social media itself, as he says it “taught me about social media responsibility.”
In terms of his academics, Jindal doesn’t believe the two have much of a correlation. “I set up downtime for this, and then I set up other time to work on my homework.”
This method allows for him to balance both tasks without interference. “I don’t think it has any effect,” he says, on his academic performance.
His social life is a different matter. Having a YouTube channel, especially one with a sizable following, involves interacting with your audience and gaining social interaction skills, even if it’s online.
Jindal sees the benefits: “It’s helping me make more friends, I think, even if they’re not on this platform.”
