I interviewed a series of New Providence High School Wrestlers ranging from beginner freshmen to team captain seniors and asked them what their favorite move to get a takedown was.
Q: What was your favorite move to get a takedown and why?
Braeden Valley – Senior Captain: My favorite move to get a takedown is a double leg, because it’s easy and quick.
Trevor Fornuff – Senior Captain: My favorite move to get a takedown is a double leg. I like it because it’s fun and powerful. It usually works and it’s not too risky. It’s an overall good move.
Nikolas Keller – Sophomore: My favorite move to get a takedown is definitely a single leg. This was because I feel like I wrestled pretty fast, and I was able to get really low and get to my opponent’s legs very well. I actually did this a lot in the Union County tournament. When I tried to do other moves like a double leg, I wasn’t as fast, as opposed to a single leg.
Thomas Montrone – Freshman: My favorite move to get a takedown is the gravedigger. This is because it’s just efficient for me due to my arm strength, and my opponents are not really expecting it.
Eymen Subasi – Freshman: My favorite move to get a takedown is checking the watch from a collar tie position, as that allows me to get behind my opponent and get to a single leg.
