On Thursday March 12th, 2020 we found out that school would be closed due to COVID-19, and we would be switching to online learning. However, this means that extra activities were closed too.

One of those things was the musical, Little Shop of Horrors. The musical was set to be performed Friday March 13th and twice on Saturday March 14th. However, all three performances were cancelled. Fortunately, the cast was still able to perform the show in front of their families.

“I was heartbroken when I found out that our performances were cancelled, as was the rest of the cast. Performing for a smaller audience of just family and friends was sad for all of us, but the energy in the crowd was incredible. I felt so supported and loved throughout the whole performance,” said Hanna Giedraitis, a senior at New Providence High School who played Audrey, Seymour’s love interest in the play.

The play was also streamed on Instagram live, so everyone that was unable to attend the performance could still watch it. However, it is currently unavailable.

It is uncertain if the play will be rescheduled because it is unknown when school will reopen. “As of now though I would expect for it not to be rescheduled,” said Giedraitis. She explained that this is partly because a few of their set pieces were rented, hindering their ability to perform the show.

“Only having one shot to leave everything on stage made that the most wonderful and unforgettable performance of my life, so I did enjoy it very much. I still wish we had a chance to do our show for the public and hope that we might get that opportunity soon,” said Giedraitis.

Hopefully the musical will be rescheduled when school reopens, however it is uncertain if it will. However, Giedraitis said that, “Little Shop of Horrors is a story full of heart and humanity, and bringing Audrey to life was a blast. Her story is full of beauty, sorrow, and most importantly hope. The biggest reason I love the musical is because of the people I’m surrounded by. My directors gave me so much confidence and I couldn’t have done it without knowing they believed in me. I am so lucky to have known them. The cast, crew, and pit are so kind and welcoming. We always lift each other up and give each other home.”
