Sports Recap 1/17 – 1/22

Girls Basketball

  • 1/17 Win vs Westfield
    • After trailing 41-37 heading into the 4th quarter, the Pioneers had an amazing 15-4 fourth quarter to squeak out the win
    • Grace Kinum lead the team in scoring with 19 alongside 5 rebounds and 2 assists
    • Megan Slattery also had an impressive game with 12 points and 9 rebounds
  • 1/22 Win vs Oak Knoll
    • After jumping out to a 29-14 halftime lead, the Pioneers did not let up and continued to dominate outscoring Oak Knoll 24-13 in the second half
    • Kinum again led the Pioneers in scoring posting 15 points in addition to 6 rebounds and 3 assists
    • Meghan Lamanna cracked double digits as well with 13 points  

Boys Basketball 

  • 1/18 Loss vs Cranford
    • After a difficult first half (31-15), the Pioneers tried to mount a comeback but lost 56-49
    • Jackson Zarinko had a team-high 15 points combined with 6 assists
    • Will Lattmann pitched in with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists 
  • 1/20 loss vs Scotch Plains-Fanwood
    • Heading into the 4th, the Pioneers were down only 6 but were unable to mount a comeback and lost 62-44
    • Again Zarinko led the team in scoring with 15 alongside 1 rebound and assist
    • Lattman again had an impactful game with 14 points and 4 rebounds
  • 1/22 Win vs Rahway
    • Fueled by an excellent performance in the second quarter (18-5), the Pioneers hung on to win 55-44
    • Lattman had a stellar performance again with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
    • Scott Nook added 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists

Wrestling 

  • 1/19 loss vs Roselle Park
    • The wrestling team had a tough go against a good Roselle Park team and only managed to notch 9 points compared to Roselle’s 72
    • Some high points came from Aiden Lazas and Daniel Seib who both managed to gather some points for the Pioneers

Girls Swimming

  • 1/19 Win vs Elizabeth 
    • New Providence won in dominant style, scoring 109 to 57. 
    • Racers Corinne Walsh, Kalina Kornacki, and Saule Mikaliunaite won a variety of individual and team races

Boys Swimming 

  • 1/19 Win vs Elizabeth
    • New Providence won comfortably with a final score of 93 to 76
    • Racers Van Lawler, Floyd Conlin, and Vincent Terzo were responsible for some of the fastest solo times and helped to win many team races
