Sports Recap 2/10-2/28

Boys basketball:  The boys won against West Morris and continued to be successful in their following games against Rahway (61-52) and Mountain Lakes (55-48). Captain Matt Smith reflected on the team’s biggest accomplishments of the season: “Beating Roselle and finishing second in the conference were two big accomplishments for us this season.” 

Girls basketball:  Girls basketball beat Roselle Catholic to move on to county finals, then beat Westfield to become county champs. They beat Abraham Clark in sectional quarterfinals. They went on to defeat Manasquan in the final and were named sectional central group 2 champs. After beating Delaware Valley in the first round of states, they will face Middle Township in the Semifinal round of the NJSIAA Group 2 Tournament.  

Swimming:  Boys swimming had their sectional quarterfinals against Metuchen and won 96-73 to move on to sectional state semifinals, where their season ended.  Senior Lily Pergola said the biggest accomplishment of the girls team was that “this year we made it to states which we did not last year so we were all really excited about that.” 

Wrestling:  Freshmen Braeden Valley and Brandon Papa, along with senior Aidan Lazas made it to regionals which is a big accomplishment. Senior Oriyan Sahar said: “Our biggest accomplishment was probably making sectionals because it was the first time since 2015.” 

Track:  The track team has been putting in a lot of hard work throughout this season and made it to the Sectional Championship. Hayden Singer won the State Championship in the 800 and the team won the 4 by 4 relay. 

Cheer:  Cheer has been having a very successful winter season and came first in various competitions. They came first in their competition at Saint John Vianney and John F. Kennedy Memorial HS. 

Hockey:  Hockey had their first round of states against Paramus and won 6-1, advanced and defeated Toms River East in a 4-1 victory in the quarterfinal round of states, leading to their semifinal match against Verona.
