Upperclassman Fundraising Updates: What’s Happening With Prom?
October 22, 2021
New Providence High School students have been wondering what’s in store for the in-person school year. Questions about indoor sports, midterms, and most importantly, prom, have occurred. Will seniors have a prom this year? Will the juniors finally have a chance at the prom? How will they fund these and any more events?
Great news for the seniors: prom is set in motion! Senior prom is booked for Thursday, June 2 at Brooklake Country Club. There is a plan for the junior class to join them as well, however, the full details are not worked out yet.
Ms. Noppenberger, the Class of 2023 advisor, explained how there is always more fundraising to be done. She said that there is always money needed for extras that students would want at a prom, like a DJ, favors, a dessert bar, or photo booth. Money can also go into a senior barbecue for next year, and left over money can be donated to things like engraved benches. It all depends on how much money they fundraise.
Ms. Berrios, the seniors advisor, shared how the Class of 2022 has raised money for their big night: “We try to do bigger fundraisers like the senior class T shirts, and we have plans for Halloween goodie bags and we have plans for chocolate bar fundraisers. So we try to make money in any way that we can.”
Future fundraising is in the works, too. Berrios said that the PTSA has a few ideas for senior events, and that they are looking for senior feedback on whether they want Berrios and the committee to sponsor some as well. For these plans, she hopes for “a bigger event as a fundraiser” so they can raise “a large amount of money in one event.”
For juniors, Noppenberger explained: “We were talking about maybe car washes and hopefully we can get creative, in some form, but we’re here for all the creative ideas that you have.”
She also hopes for bake sales to earn money, and even some competitive games for teens to pay to participate in. This could be a volleyball or kick ball tournament, or even a home run derby.
Students have talked about their ideas for fundraising, too.
Emma Ure, a junior at NPHS, said: “I would like to do a bake sale,” and Corinne Walsh, also a junior, suggested: “You could sell something related to NPHS, like merchandise, and all proceeds would go to prom.”
