Mr. Keaney Named Director of Curriculum
March 14, 2022
After spending decades at New Providence High School, and a couple of years at the Middle School, Assistant Principal Jon Keaney has taken a job as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision in the Board of Education office. The position opened up when Jay Richter moved from job as Principal at Allen W. Roberts Elementary school after the abrupt mid-year resignation of Robyn Greenwald.
Keaney was approved by the Board for the new position on Thursday, February 24th, and will be gradually transitioning from the Middle School to the Board Office.
Stephanie Kwiatkowski, assistant principal at NPHS said: “I am happy for him because it’s a dream job for him, but at the same time, I’m upset about losing my dear friend.”
Keaney is excited for the new path he’s decided to take, however he said that leaving the Middle School is “bittersweet.” The new position allows him to work with teachers and department heads, while also discussing teaching and learning, and how to make improvements.
When Keaney became Assistant Principal in 2019, he was no longer able to run the New Teacher Institute, a week-long course for teachers new to the District, which takes place the week before school starts. He was very passionate about it, but he unfortunately had to pass the responsibilities to someone else.
This is one of the reasons that Kwiatkowski believes Keaney is so well suited to the new position. “It will allow him to kind of do that again, because talking about teaching and curriculum is kind of his jam.”
It still remains unknown as to who will fill the MS Assistant Principal position, but administration hopes to find a great fit who challenges the middle school and brings new ideas to the table. The position has been posted, candidates will apply for the spot, and later go through interviews and other assessments.
