Lights! Camera! Action!

Ever wondered how actors, managers and directors make plays and put them together to make incredible performances?

This year’s spring musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It,  started presenting their show on Friday, March 10 at 7:30 pm,  and the last show was performed on March 18th.  The performances showcased the talents of NP’s students, and were well-received by the audience. That audience is generally unaware that behind the scenes, there can be a lot of craziness when the curtains close.

The plot of the play is built around the songs and dancing, being a collection of the most popular songs by the Gershwins.  This allowed the cast to show a lot of humor and comedy and created opportunities for lots of dance numbers and big production numbers.

Megan Huber, who was a part of the ensemble group explained: “It was a struggle to learn all of the dance moves and sing at the same time and we had a lot of practice almost every day.  I made sure to take care of my voice and drink plenty of water. Although it was a lot of work I enjoyed seeing my friends every day.”

Ollie Billingsley was  part of the backstage crew and did costume changes, assisting with quick changes at the beginning of the play. She’s been doing crew for two years now and enjoys every minute of it and the fun experiences.

“There was one night where I forgot to get the wigs. So I had to run and quickly go get them so they would be ready for the stitching. It was crazy but I got them on time,” she said.

Being a part of the play and production can come with a lot of challenges and stress but Brianna Wycko the stage manager said: “ Nothing is stressful or hard unless you make it, so if you have good management skills and you’re able to just overcome those things and accomplish what you need to get done, you’ll be fine and successful.”

Mr. Duke, the director, said:  “I’m just I’m very proud of the kids. It was an excellent production. We’ve gotten really good feedback from everybody.”
