3 Simple Steps to Stay on Track in Online School

James Carthy, staff writer

One of the biggest struggles students are facing right now with this online school schedule is staying on task. When in the high school building, it is much easier to stay focused because there are no distractions to take your attention away from the task at hand. When at home, doing schoolwork can be tough with the amount of distractions around you. Things like technology, pets, family, etc. can pull you away from doing your school work. So here are three simple steps to becoming as productive as possible while doing online classes at home.

  • Get rid of distractions

When at home, distractions are a lot more noticeable than at school. Eliminating these distractions from your workplace is key to your success in online school. The first thing you should do when removing distractions is to silence or hide your cell phone. Cell phones are very distracting when trying to do schoolwork. A single notification can cause you to get hooked online for hours. Finding a quiet study space where there are no distractions is also key. You should find a space where you can concentrate without being interrupted by anyone.

  • Set Goals

Things can be very hard to follow if you have multiple assignments for different classes due on the same day. The easiest way to stay on task while keeping this in mind is creating a list of goals to complete by the end of the school day. Without a list it can be very stressful to look at all the assignments due that day. A list can help you stay on track and make the most out of your day. When creating a to-do list for the day, you should check through all your assignments to have some sort of idea of what your goals actually mean. Adding times you want to finish each assignment could also be very useful.
