Mrs. Kirkland is leaving NPHS after 20 years as a teacher and Department Head.  She has had an impact on so many of us, and we will miss her.

What was your favorite thing about Mrs. Kirkland?

Hans Calderon: She’s very forgiving. Even though like, you may be like an idiot in class, like, she’ll always forgive you and like, love to have you here in every class.

Tanvi Silvester: “She’s really laid back.”

Katerina Wachtel: ““She provided a safe space and she was always there for everybody.”

Daniel Peritore: “She’s very inviting. She makes the environment very warm, welcoming and makes it feel like a family.”

Anna Oliva: “She’s the most welcoming and inviting person ever. She welcomes everyone and makes everyone feel included. If you need anything she always tells you to come to her and it’s true, if you go to her she will listen to anything you have to say. She supports you with everything.”

Alicia Shi: “My favorite thing about Mrs. Kirkland is how nice she is. She’s really nice. I like the music and she also gives off a positive energy which is why choir is my favorite subject because of all of the fun we have singing great songs.”

What is your favorite memory of Mrs.Kirkland?

Calderon: “We had voice class and I was having a really bad time like in my life and then she was just like always there. I don’t know, be helpful, be there for me. So yeah, I like that.”

Silvester: “Oh, we were doing like “icks” or something like in the corner. And she came over and was like,  “I hate when cars park right next to you in an empty parking lot.”

Wachtel: “Probably her first impression she had on everybody. The first time I met her she was very welcoming. No matter if people joined three years ago or last year.”

Peritorie: “Honestly, the spring concert this year when we were all singing Omnia Sol and then also when she was singing to all the seniors after we got our flowers.”

Oliva: My favorite memory… I have a lot. The sign that she held up said, “I can’t watch this” and Dan and Andrew sang karaoke in the winter. Or, just watching her reaction when all of the alumni and us sang Omnia Sol to her at the winter concert.”

Shi: “My favorite memory with her is definitely the last concert we had. It was quite emotional because we are graduating. We got to sing her a song, she got to sing us a song and all the alumni came back to sing Omnia Sol with us which was really fun. It was a great night.”
