The New Providence High School Swim Team is ready to dive into another season! The first meet of the year against Scotch Plains showed how improved both the boys and girls teams are from previous years.  The girls team had a great start to their season with a victory in what has always been a challenging meet. Unfortunately, although the boys team fell short in the end, they were pleased with their showing and how hard they battled against a perennially tough Scotch Plains team.   

Senior captain Harry Clewell is very excited about the boy’s team this season:  “Our team is very good this year.  I expect it to be the best in my four years. We have a great team chemistry and I really look forward to seeing what we can do this year.”  Harry is joined by captain Mike Glendinning as he leads the team this year.

The girls team is also looking forward to a great season.  Senior Kelly Carroll is very excited:   “We already beat Scotch Plains.  We are definitely expecting a very successful season. We are working a lot harder to be a really good team.  In the past it’s kind of been something kids do, but this year we are bonding and getting psyched because we have a chance to go far in Counties and have a lot of girls go far in the Meet of Champions. It’s gonna be a good season.”  Kelly, along with fellow captains Alex Esposito and Caroline Van Kimmenaede hope to lead the team to victory.

Coaches Kempner and  Goldstein have made it known that their expectations this season are very high, and the swimmers are trying to fulfill these lofty expectations.

So far the boy’s team is 1-2, losing to Westfield and Scotch Plains while defeating Elizabeth, and the girl’s team is 2-1, defeating Scotch Plains and Elizabeth, but also falling short against Westfield.
