Boys Soccer Looks to Repeat

The New Providence Boys Soccer team is looking to repeat as conference champs this year. They are 3-3 as of Tuesday, September 17.

“We have a great team this year,” Mark Elek responded when asked about the team this year. Despite their record, team has looked like a top squad, scoring a whopping 13 goals in a stretch of 3 games, all wins.  The average amount of goals a game is 2.6.

“This team will be very special, but we have to keep grinding every day to get better,” Youseff told us. The team practices every day, in hopes to repeat the type of magical season they had last year.

“The team is very different than it was last year, but that does not mean we are worse in any way” Miguel Garcia told us in an interview.

The team last year was almost all seniors, so the team this year is infused with a load of young talent.

“Age doesn’t mean anything to us, we just want to go out there and show everyone why they should not want to play us. We just go out there and play our hearts out and then the final score is what it is” Christian Muller pointed out.

The boys have lost to some very quality teams. They lost to Union who was on a 25 game winning streak. The boys played that game close, as the halftime score was 0-1. The game ended 1-5, but it was a good showing as they scored a bunch of goals near the end of the game.

“The Union game was a great test for us, mentally and physically. We kept it close in the first half, but we really let the second half get away from us. We have to be better and learn from the mistakes in this game,” team favorite Dylan Paniagua pointed out after the Union game.

“The season is still very young. We can easily rebound and reach our ultimate goal. We just have to really strive and grind to get where we need to be. We just have to really grow as a group and learn from our past mistakes. We also have to critique each other so we continue to get better” Franklin Markel said after the loss.
