The brand new Neer Nation club, advised by Ms. Berrios, is organizing various events for New Providence High School. The club recently announced that it will be hosting a school spirit week and pep rally the week of October 17th- 21st for students and staff to kick off the new year.

Spirit week is an event in which various activities happen around the school as a way to encourage school spirit and create a positive environment. Students (and staff) are also typically encouraged to match a certain theme, demonstrating a sense of unity.

Many of our students and staff felt that NPHS needed more activities that would increase school spirit and wanted to make school more exciting.

“We thought that organizing a pep rally would be a really good idea to kick off the year in a positive way,” said Berrios.

NPHS also participates in character education spirit weeks, however the goal of the Neer Nation school spirit week is to have fun and bring the school community together. Berrios also highlighted that students should feel “celebrated and appreciated.” The spirit week and pep rally will highlight all NPHS sports and co-curricular activities. Neer Nation members and other students will also be encouraged to attend sports games during spirit week to further promote school pride.

“I think that it’ll be something that will make them feel that they belong and they’ll feel respected and they’ll feel excited to be here,” said Berrios. “It’s just supposed to be fun and silly and just get the students and staff to really just enjoy being here with each other.”

Throughout the week, the club will create fun and unique themes that students and staff can dress up for. There will be a pep rally consisting of different games, such as teachers vs student relay races, as well as entertainment from different sports teams and co-curriculars during the last block on Friday October 21.
