New Providence High School has always been looked upon as a strong school with a positive community and reputation. The staff in the district are very organized and do an excellent job of promoting hard working habits. With that being said, the students at New Providence High School have some thoughts and ideas on how the school could be improved even further.

This year a new driving/drop off pattern was introduced to the school community. Many students and parents have opinions on the benefits of the new formation, mostly depending on where each student lives in town.

Harper Gold, a sophomore at NPHS said that the new driving pattern has become an early morning difficulty for her and her family.

“I have to drive all the way around just to get from my house to school every morning now. It takes way too much time” she stated.

Although it is not entirely the school’s choice to implement the new driving pattern, many students join Gold in voicing concern regarding just how often they are now late to school because of it.

Another issue that comes up a lot is passing time.  The current bell schedule allows the students about three minutes passing time in between classes. Many students believe that there should be more time allowed for this period.

Riya Mallya, a junior at NPHS said: “I think that we should get more time in between classes because the middle schoolers also get stuck in between us during certain periods of the day.”

Nico Arcadia, also a junior at NPHS agreed: “I think we need more time in between classes, because the hallways are always so crowded and everyone walks at a different speed which creates traffic jams.”

This is frustrating to students mostly because they do not want to pile up tardies on their attendance records.

As far as school spirit goes, Grace Vieira, a junior at NPHS said: “We need some more school spirit led by the students. We shouldn’t let the staff plan all of it. The new Neer Nation club will hopefully improve on that.”

Neer Nation is a club that has just been introduced this year, and allows for students in any grade to contribute their ideas and time into planning school events.

Mental health and stress levels have always been a difficult aspect of being a high school student, especially for a senior who is committing to college.

Sophia Rucinski, a senior at NPHS said: “I think the administration should be more mindful of the students’ wants and needs. including mental health. Sometimes due dates get stressful and there should be more communication between teachers about not overwhelming the students.”
